A badly managed state owned enterprise that was designed to be a service… where have I seen that before? Possibly everywhere.
Amazon really did get a sweet deal since usps is a federal service and even in the case of a strike they still need to maintain minimal service.
It is really awful though that the federal budget doesn’t do more for usps. Seems that right now the government wants usps in 2 boats: a state owned enterprise that acts like a service (but ideally without forking a decent budget for it) AND a private enterprise that is able to make its own deals and fund itself.
So why not just cut the chord and go the latter? Won’t be a solution in the short term for employee woes but slowly the usps will be able to charge the correct price for its service and make all the cuts and hiring it needs.
